In order to celebrate the “World Day Against Cyber Censorship” on 12th March, the Alliance of Independent Journalist (AJI) Indonesia shall ask the Minister of Communication and Informatics to definitively terminate the Draft of Regulation of Minister on Multimedia Content. As has been delivered by the  AJI Indonesia several times ago, the draft is contradicted with article 4 paragraph (2) and (3) of Law Number 40 of 1999 on Press. The article thereof shall guarantee that press is free from censor, closing down and broadcasting prohibition.

Meanwhile, the draft of regulation aforesaid apparently requires the internet service provider to filter, block and delete the internet contents which are considered illegal. By the regulation, the Minister of Communication and Informatics shall establish the Multimedia Content Team which practically will become an internet censor institution.

After a wide public rejection on the draft appeared, the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Tifatul Sembiring stated to be “cooling down”. However, until now, the Minister of Communication and Informatics does not terminate the draft thereof definitively. In other words, the regulation draft shall be possible to be validated later.

Therefore, exactly on the “World Day Against Cyber Censorship”, the AJI Indonesia shall ask for the draft being terminate officially. Besides, the Minister of Communication and Informatics shall guarantee that he will not release a regulation which principally censors the internet.

In this time, the  AJI Indonesia states to support the “World Day Against Cyber Censorship” which is established by the Reporters Without Border and Amnesty International.

The support is conducted by actions against all forms of internet censor by the government and industry.
